A low roll could damage your morale and even affect how a person interacts with you in future events. When interacting with NPCs (non-player characters), a high roll could reveal more information about the murder, or let you establish greater authority over a major character. Disco Elysium's uniqueness comes from that same feature. A high roll on the other hand might grant you vital access to secret information. Rolling a low number, for instance, might result in a failed escape from a mob of monsters. In Dungeons & Dragons, your success in a campaign comes from lucking into high dice rolls. But you only have a certain number of skill points to invest in your protagonist, so it's up to you to decide what attributes you'll focus on. Or maybe you'll take a more aggressive approach, using physical strength and intimidation to get information from people. Maybe you'll favor a character build with higher intelligence, but far less social skill. It's a masterclass in implementing the best parts of several genres and creating something entirely new.īefore you embark on your whodunit, your first task is to choose what kind of cop you'll be in the fatigued, fictional city of Revachol. Bending and blending video game genres isn't unheard of, but Disco Elysium takes it to another level, combining aspects of open world games, retro point-and-clickers and classic tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. Not just about the murder, but your past, too, clouded by alcoholism and a mid-life crisisīending and blending video game genres isn't unheard of, but 'Disco Elysium' takes it to another level, combining aspects of open world games, retro point-and-clickers and classic tabletop role-playing games like 'Dungeons and Dragons.'ĭisco Elysium is an unusual amalgamation of genres. It's up to you and your more reserved partner-in-crime to uncover the truth. As it turns out, there's a bloated body hanging from a tree behind your hostel. And the best part is, if you purchased the original, you get these additions for free.Īfter you manage to throw on your flared pants, funky jacket, and alligator skin shoes, Disco Elysium mercilessly pushes you into a grisly, corrupt world where you play as an unnamed detective (you can't remember your name). This time around, developers ZA/UM added a fully voice-acted script and extra quests. NPR didn't review this indie treasure then, so Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is our chance at redemption. You wake up - after a despairing battle with your psyche - pantsless and decaying in your battered hostel room, the window smashed, hot water flowing indefinitely out of the bathroom faucet.ĭisco Elysium first came out on PC in October 2019. No memory of the night before, no memory of your family and friends, no memory of your own name, even. There's at least one or two bits of clothing with Logic bonuses, IIRC, so you should be able to reach 20.At the start of Disco Elysium, you wake up in a crummy hostel room, without your memories - and without your pants. At this point, you have a 97% chance to pass any logic check in the game that's easier than 22 (which is presumably all of them). This means that you theoretically could have a Logic of 19. If you start with INT 6, make Logic your signature skill, then you'll have a 6 base, a +1 bonus for signature, and a learning cap of 12 - 6 base, +1 for signature skill (applies to all INT), +5 from the two specific thoughts). Neither of these thoughts penalizes Logic once complete. With a 6 attribute + maxed out cap, and then potentially clothing bonuses (almost all skills if not all can get at least +1 from clothing, IIRC), you could get to the point where even 20-rank checks are at ~50/50 without additional modifiers.Įdit: If is accurate, then there's one Thought which increases the Logic learning cap by 4, and another that increases the learning cap for INT skills by 1. Thoughts can increase the learning cap above 6 (I've had a learning cap of 7 for Logic, for instance), but there is a limited set of thoughts and a limited-capacity thought cabinet to put them in. You can't start with nor increase an attribute to beyond 6, so the maximum possible initial learning cap is 6. Originally posted by The Enigma:Is there actually a cap?
